We have all heard it said, "Change your mind and you will change your world." Easy to say, harder to do. But if you are serious about changing, God will help you. Just maybe not in the way you want Him to!
Once you have decided that you want to change and set your course for a new destination, it feels as if you immediately are faced by a myriad of obstacles. Many times, these obstacles just stop us in our tracks. We give up before we have even truly begun. But do not let obstacles deter you. You NEED obstacles in order to move forward. You see, obstacles reveal what is in your heart.
When you encounter an obstacle to your progress, what is your response? For most of us - intensely negative talk!I just knew it, nothing works out for me. Life is so hard for me. God moves for others and not me. Whenever I try something new, it all goes wrong. Does this not sound just like the grumbling Israelites in the wilderness? God had just miraculously taken them out of the clutches of Pharoah, drowned their enemies behind them in the Red Sea and what do they do? Complain. God brought us to this desert to kill us. There is nothing here. Life was so much better the way it was.
We are such negative people and it reveals what is in our heart. It reveals the negative attitudes that we have. It reveals our fears. Our lack of faith in the goodness and faithfulness of God. It reveals what is REALLY going on in our hearts. You see, we can talk a good talk. We can say all the right things, but it is only when we face obstacles that what we believe in our heart, is seen. Remember, out of the heart, the mouth speaks.
What I now say is that if we want to change our world, we have to change our heart. When our heart is changed, our speech will change and the atmosphere around us will change. So next time you face an obstacle or a challenge, don't complain, don't be negative - ask God to show you what is in your heart and deal with that. Then watch the world around you begin to change!
